The City of Delano Park and Recreation Commission voted unanimously May 5 to recommend that City Council approve the Volo Aire/Mini Volo playground concept for Sunset Community Park following a presentation by Landscape Structures representatives.
David Smith of Landscape Structures (LSI) presented two options to the commission: an updated Play Booster, described as lower to the ground with more horizontal play features, and the Volo Aire, which Smith said "features the tallest accessible slide in the industry." Chair Sean Jergens asked specifically about sensory-focused, inclusive elements; Smith said several such features could be incorporated into the Volo Aire design.
Commission members discussed configuration choices and customizations, including different swing combinations, monkey bars, custom branding and color options. The conversation focused on accessibility and play-value for a range of ages and abilities. On a motion by Commissioner Bob Slipka, seconded by Commissioner Christine Moore, the commission voted unanimously to recommend the Volo Aire/Mini Volo concept to City Council.
The commission did not take any additional actions on funding or construction at the meeting; the recommendation will be forwarded to City Council for its consideration and any subsequent approvals. The meeting adjourned at 6:40 p.m.
