City Administrator Phil Kern and Community Enrichment Director Nick Neaton updated the Park and Recreation Commission on upcoming Central Park events, construction progress on the new Central Park pavilion, and procurement timelines for Sunset Community Park.
Kern said footings and concrete work for the Central Park pavilion will begin soon and the project is expected to be largely complete by June. Neaton presented a draft pavilion fee structure that follows the City's tiered rental approach; commissioners discussed factors such as staff involvement, set-up and take-down days versus festival days, and pavilion-only versus full-park rentals. Neaton will revise the fee proposal and present it to City Council at a future meeting.
Kern also reported event plans: Baseball Day on May 9 will feature several games and related activities, and the U.S. Police Canine Association Region 12 patrol dog trials are scheduled for June and will use the main baseball stadium and other park areas. Separately, staff reported that the City Council approved the name "Sunset Community Park" on March 17; mass-grading bids are due April 15, and Council will review the bids at its April 21 meeting. Representatives from Landscape Structures are scheduled to brief the commission on April 22 about playground options for Sunset Community Park.
