Courtney Muckenhirn, Delano Recreation Coordinator, updated the commission on Spirit Park operations, saying the covered ice sheet has operated for about 30 days and has grossed $4,426 to date. Muckenhirn said "stick and puck" sessions have been more popular than "open-skate" hours and that the city purchased a few skate-assist devices that have been well used. Staff conducted a user survey during the first month of operation and are adjusting hours and programming in response.
Nick Neaton, Community Enrichment Director, told the commission that membership terms for three positions (Sean Jergens, Marnie Lucas and Tom Screeden) end Feb. 28. Jergens said he had reapplied for another term; Lucas and Screeden said they would not reapply. Neaton said City Council will interview applicants and new commissioners would begin terms in March.
Becky Schaust, City Council Liaison, asked whether commissioners would consider moving the meeting start time from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. to match other commissions and whether meetings could be recorded for the website. Most commission members indicated a preference to keep the 5:00 p.m. start time. Neaton said staff would look into recording options. No formal action was taken on meeting time or recordings.
There were no outstanding items from previous agendas, and the meeting adjourned at 6:16 p.m.
