Eagle Scout candidate Jake Forliti presented a proposal to build three new raised-bed garden boxes for the community garden near the pickleball courts, and the Delano Park and Recreation Commission voted unanimously to recommend the project to City Council.
Community Enrichment Director Nick Neaton told the commission that demand for garden space has exceeded the existing seven plots. Forliti said he expects to begin construction in spring so the boxes are available for spring planting; the commission heard that the planters would be donated to the City and the City would fund soil to fill them. Staff estimated the boxes would have a 7–10 year lifespan.
On a motion by Travis Gasparick, seconded by Patrick Soldan, the commission voted to recommend the Eagle Scout project to City Council. The recommendation will be forwarded to Council for final approval; the commission did not allocate funds beyond committing to pay for soil if the project proceeds.
