Council adopts repair-or-demolish ordinance for derelict commercial property at 212 E. Sunrise Ave.

City staff from Planning and Community Development reported the property is in derelict condition and unoccupied. The ordinance requires the property owner to submit a repair plan within 30 days; failing that, the city may demolish the structure and place a lien on the property to recoup costs.
Mayor Pro Tem Hunter Thrift moved to adopt the ordinance; the motion was seconded and passed 7-0. City Manager Brandt confirmed the building is an empty commercial property, not a residence.
Council Member Payton Williams thanked Code Enforcement for its work identifying long-standing problem buildings and supporting the ordinance.
What happens next: staff will notify the property owner of the 30-day repair-plan requirement and proceed per the ordinance if no plan is submitted.
