The Coffey County Commission on June 1 adopted the Coffey County Planning Board bylaws as approved by the Planning Board on May 20, 2026, with a revision to Article 1, Section 6, Paragraph 7 requiring the Planning Board to submit a proposed budget for the ensuing year to the governing body on or before June 15 each year, citing K.S.A. 12-746. The motion to adopt the bylaws with that revision was moved by Michael Abendroth and seconded by Steve McCurry after an earlier, related motion had been withdrawn.
Planning & Zoning Administrator Heidi Harris presented the bylaws to the commission and also presented an updated job description for the Planning and Zoning Director. The commission approved the presented job description and authorized the chairman to sign the document; the approval was moved by Steve McCurry and seconded by Wayde Thomsen.
The bylaws amendment clarifies the board’s annual budgeting duty and links the timing of the planning board’s proposed budget to K.S.A. 12-746, as stated in the minutes. The record does not include the full text of the revised bylaw beyond the cited scheduling requirement nor a detailed discussion in the minutes of operational impacts.
Provenance: Planning & Zoning presentation and motions as recorded in SEG 010–SEG 013 and the job description approval in SEG 016.
