Commission forms 250th-anniversary ad hoc committee; member flags potential subdivision at Fairview property

At its Jan. 12 meeting the West Whiteland Township Historical Commission announced formation of an ad hoc committee to coordinate the township’s participation in the United States’ 250th anniversary celebrations. Planner Patrick Gorman said West Chester is planning a parade with floats from neighboring municipalities and suggested West Whiteland’s float could highlight the Battle of the Clouds. Commissioners Joe McCormick and Sara DiPaolo volunteered to serve on the ad hoc committee.
Mr. Gorman also announced the Commission’s next meeting for Feb. 9, noting the Joseph Price House window project will be on that agenda. Separately, Joe McCormick reported that the owner of 225 N. Whitford Road, the site of the historic Fairview/Charles Thomas House, has expressed interest in subdividing the parcel for townhouse development. McCormick said the parcel also contains a ranch house listed on the Township Inventory as a former chicken coop and "ruins of a spring house in the northwest corner of the property (a stone structure approximately 4 feet high) that is not mentioned in the Township’s inventory." Patrick Gorman responded by stressing the importance of periodically updating the Township Inventory.
