West Whiteland Historical Commission appoints leadership, approves repairs at Ryerss Farm Infirmary Barn

At its Jan. 12 meeting, the West Whiteland Township Historical Commission appointed Joe McCormick as chairman and Joshua Anderson as vice-chairman and unanimously approved exterior repairs at the Ryerss Farm Infirmary Barn, at 1416 West Woodbank Way.
Laura Mikowychok and Eric Smith attended to present the application to replace the barn’s lower-level sliding door with two hinged doors, repair two deteriorated windows (one to be replaced in kind with a new black screen) and to replace existing interior metal bars in the wall openings with wooden dowels. Eric Smith said the X panel shown in the applicants’ photograph "will be on the inside of the door, not the outside as shown," and confirmed that the strap hinges will be new, constructed from wrought black iron and the doors will be painted black.
Carol Quigley, the Township’s historic consultant, reviewed the submission and determined the proposed alterations "have no adverse effect on the historic structure," noting the application used appropriate materials and design. The Commission approved the replacement as presented with the condition that the metal bars be replaced with wooden dowels. The motion to approve passed 5-0 (mover: Joshua Anderson; second: Sara DiPaolo).
