Deerfield committee explores municipal solar with Power Options; Library LEED bid could unlock funding

The Deerfield Energy Conservation Committee discussed steps to evaluate municipal rooftop solar and potential procurement pathways on March 12.
Ryan Kingston said he will send electric bills for three municipal sites—the public library, the Department of Public Works building and the wastewater treatment plant—to Power Options to assess feasibility and inform potential proposals. Power Options, a state-authorized nonprofit that facilitates clean-energy procurement, works with contractor Solect on Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) proposals, according to the minutes.
Alex Galloway offered to research the age of the roofs on the municipal buildings to help determine suitability for solar installations. MA Swedlund reported that the library is aiming to qualify for LEED; if LEED funding is awarded and the Capital Improvement Planning Committee approves the project, LEED could pay for solar panels and battery storage.
Committee members noted that the 1888 building and the library are seeking proposals for solar (CCI referenced). The discussion produced two clear follow-up items: Ryan will provide usage and billing data to Power Options, and Galloway will report back on roof conditions. No procurement decisions or contract awards were made at the meeting.
