Tilton Trustees recommend modest budget increase, approve video game policy; fundraising tops $1.5M

At their Jan. 7 meeting, the Tilton Board of Trustees unanimously voted to recommend Option 2 of three proposed library budgets and approved a Video Game Usage Policy.
Director Candace Bradbury-Carlin presented three budget scenarios: Option 1 (no change in hours) with an overall 11.56% increase largely from higher electricity and HVAC maintenance costs; Option 2 would add six hours per week for a library assistant at an added $5,856 (a 13.91% increase); Option 3 would add 20 hours at $19,521 (a 19.41% increase). Trustee Bette Schmitt moved to recommend Option 2; Trustee John Stacey seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
The board also reviewed and approved a proposed Video Game Usage Policy. Trustee Kathy O'Rourke moved to approve the policy and Trustee Cynthia Von Flatern seconded; that motion likewise carried unanimously.
On fundraising, Bradbury-Carlin said the campaign has raised more than $1.5 million to date and the annual appeal reached about $60,000. Professional fundraiser Kristin Baker recommended producing short videos about the library's impact as part of a marketing push; the board discussed recruiting local students with Frontier and sponsorship ideas with TreeHouse, and Dennis O'Rourke is working on sponsorship contacts.
Procedural items included unanimous approval of the Dec. 3, 2025 minutes (moved by Bette Schmitt, seconded by Kathy O'Rourke) and adjournment at 7:37 p.m. (moved by Cynthia Von Flatern, seconded by Bette Schmitt). The trustees set their next meeting for Feb. 4, 2026.
