Tilton Library to reopen Jan. 12 after accessibility work; director outlines remaining fixes

Tilton Library will reopen to the public on Monday, Jan. 12, following completion of building system checks, Library Director Candace Bradbury-Carlin told the Board of Trustees at their Jan. 7 meeting.
Bradbury-Carlin said an internet-based phone system is installed and working and the fire alarm system is functioning. The library has received a close-out package of information on building systems that staff have reviewed. She said the Town will install an accessible door button and a FOB; however, the manual exterior door is difficult to open, close and lock when power is out, so staff are exploring contingency approaches and will add a doorbell to allow staff inside to admit visitors.
Bradbury-Carlin also reported a walk-through with a DA Sullivan representative and the project architect, who found building systems in generally good order apart from the exterior door. She said she plans to meet with Matthew Morse of the Department of Public Works to coordinate ongoing maintenance, and the Town may decide to institute a town-wide maintenance contract with DA Sullivan or another vendor.
The reopening will be accompanied by a public opening party on Saturday, Jan. 10, the director said. The board did not set additional conditions for opening at the meeting.
