The Snellville mayor and council on July 13 agreed to waive first readings on two land-use items and place them on the July 27 agenda for full public hearings.
SUP 26-01 concerns an application by Parkview Christian School (applicant principal Shane Swayze) and property owner Westside Baptist Church (pastor John Weldon) asking to operate a private K–8 school within the existing church facility at 2925 Main Street West (a 4.402-acre site zoned RS-30). The council voted to waive the first reading to the July 27 meeting by majority consent.
CIC 26-01 is a change in conditions request from SPG Planners & Engineers and property owner Shiftka Real Estate Investments to increase a previously approved 171-unit town-center flats proposal to 239 units on a 2.677-acre site in the Town Center Residential (TCR) zone at 2380 Wisteria Drive. Planning staff advised the council the applicant intends to submit revised site plans responding to Planning Commission comments; staff and several council members discussed advertising and calendar constraints, and the council voted to waive the first reading and carry any public hearing/discussion to July 27, 2026.
Public commenters and councilmembers raised concerns about traffic, stormwater and parking for denser developments; residents urged the city to ensure clear information is posted online when applicants revise plans. Councilmembers emphasized citizens who have site-specific concerns should follow up with staff so the council can be properly informed before final action.
