Bayfield County CCOP advisory committee approves minutes, reviews staffing and joins state policy academy

Hayley Weyers, the County’s Family Services Manager, called the Children’s Community Options Program (CCOP) Advisory Committee to order at 10:10 a.m. May 12 and the committee approved its March 10, 2026, meeting minutes after a motion from Weyers and a second from Anna Hanson.
Weyers and county staff updated the group on program operations and personnel changes. Melissa Berthiaume was identified as Bayfield County’s newly promoted County Child Welfare Lead and will supervise programs that interact with the Coordinated Services Team (CST). Weyers said she became Family Services Manager on April 13, 2026, and that the department has a vacancy for a full-time Children’s Long Term Support (CLTS) case manager; staff interviewed multiple candidates and hope to extend an offer soon.
Staff reported 62 children were enrolled in the CLTS program and there were four new referrals since the prior meeting. Weyers walked the committee through an assessment spreadsheet—the Children's System of Care Self-Assessment Tool—that links each item to definitions and compiles inputs on a second tab intended for surveys, case studies and interviews. She highlighted the assessment’s "Team" element, describing the goal as ensuring "the provider, family, child, and others make sure all the services are working together," and emphasized the principle of being "unconditional" in continuity of care.
Weyers said Bayfield County is participating in the state’s first Children’s System of Care Policy Academy. She, Melissa Berthiaume and Sherri Paulson are involved in the work and will engage with state “champions” to evaluate strengths and needs across the department, schools, law enforcement and medical providers to build a wraparound model for coordinated care. Weyers said the county is seeking one or more parents to join the CST to share lived experience; virtual meetings run through August, followed by two in-person workshop days Aug. 12–13 at Legendary Waters Casino in Bayfield.
Anna Hanson shared takeaways from an autism conference in Wisconsin Dells, mentioning breakout sessions such as "Melting the Meltdown" and contacts at Aurora’s Foundation she hopes to leverage for local services. The committee confirmed next meeting dates of July 14, Sept. 8 and Nov. 10, all at 10 a.m. in the Lake Michigan Conference Room and virtually.
