Easton selectmen approve SHPO tax-credit filings; First Selectman reports DPW and farmland preservation activity

The Easton Board of Selectmen on April 9 unanimously authorized the First Selectman to sign and submit SHPO tax-credit applications for energy-efficiency upgrades at the Staples Academy building and the Congregational Church.
Elizabeth Boyce presented NAA grant applications for both properties and asked the board to proceed with the SHPO filings as a continuation of prior projects that lacked adequate funding; Kristi Sogofsky moved for authorization, Nick D'Addario seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.
Separately, First Selectman Dan Lent reported that the Department of Public Works is performing excavation and site work in-house to reduce costs and that the local fire company agreed to allow continued use of its well—connected to town operations since 1956—until a new well can be installed at the EMS site.
Lent said he also met with the Agricultural Commission to discuss farmland preservation, succession planning for farms, and connecting available farmland with prospective farmers through state registry programs.
