Historic Preservation Commission re-elects leadership, schedules special meeting to review draft plan

The Frederick County Historic Preservation Commission at its June 3 meeting re-elected Mary Thompson as chair and Jack Lynch as vice chair for terms effective July 1 through June 30, 2027, and scheduled a special meeting to continue review of the draft Historic Preservation Plan.
Mark Andros moved to nominate Thompson and Lynch to the leadership posts; W. Peter Pearre seconded and the motion passed 5-0-0-2. The commission also approved a motion by Jack Lynch to reconvene in a special meeting on Monday, June 15, 2026 at 6:30 p.m. for further review of the draft plan; Mr. Pearre seconded. Staff said written public comment on the draft would be closed and that public comment by phone would be accepted at the June 15 meeting; the motion passed 5-0-0-2.
Senior Assistant County Attorney Kathy Mitchell advised commissioners about options for tabling and reminded the group of deadlines for forwarding the plan to the County Council. Amanda Whitmore reminded members to complete required Open Meetings Act training by July 1, 2026.
The commission approved the May 6, 2026 minutes at the start of the meeting (motion by Mark Andros; second by W. Peter Pearre) with a recorded tally of 4 yes, 0 no, 1 abstain and 2 absent (4-0-1-2). The meeting adjourned at 7:41 p.m.; upcoming meeting dates were announced.
