Mont Vernon selectmen remove 20% surcharge for morning exercise class, discuss library EV chargers and routine business

At their April 27 meeting the Mont Vernon Selectmen voted unanimously to remove a 20% surcharge long applied to a long-running Early Morning Exercise Class and addressed several routine town matters including a question about EV chargers at the library parking lot and a court order related to 54–56 Weston Hill Road.
Resident Eileen Naber, of Beech Hill Road, told the board she noticed one EV charger showing a red light and another a blue light and asked who owns the chargers, who carries liability insurance if an accident occurs while charging and whether any revenue would go to the library. Chairman John Quinlan said the library is technically still in the hands of the builder until an official handover expected at the end of June, noted apparent "teething problems" with a charger that he believes may be a wiring issue, and said he doubts the chargers will generate meaningful income but that any income would eventually come back to the town.
On recreation fees, Selectman Mike Fimbel moved to remove the 20% surcharge on the Early Morning Exercise Class; Selectman Tom Driscoll seconded the motion and the board voted unanimously "All in favor." The board recorded that the pickleball group at the school currently falls under the Recreation Department and is not charged the surcharge; Cleary will inquire whether the exercise class participants have signed liability waivers.
The board also reviewed and approved public and nonpublic minutes for April 9 and April 13 and the public and nonpublic minutes for April 20. The application period for the Selectmen's Advisory Committee closed with 11 applicants for seven seats; Cleary will reach out for additional information on unfamiliar applicants and the board will evaluate candidates next week. Cleary said the board has a 6:00 p.m. non-meeting with Town Counsel next week followed by a 7:30 p.m. regular meeting and will schedule a preparatory morning meeting on May 4 with the Building Inspector and Road Agent.
Cleary read an email from the Building Inspector and the board reviewed a signed court order concerning 54–56 Weston Hill Road that includes an itemized list of items the residents are required to remove; the minutes did not specify those items. Selectman Tom Driscoll reported he completed an NHMA Officials Workshop and suggested several governance items for further consideration, including resignations, government speech and background-check procedures.
With no further business, the board adjourned at 8:05 p.m.
