Recreation director: Spring Gala canceled; tentative re-do Aug. 22; Fishing Derby set for June 7

Autumn Grdina, Mont Vernon Recreation Director, told the Selectmen on June 1 that organizers canceled the Spring Gala/America 250 event held the previous Saturday after spending Friday notifying people not to attend. Grdina said the decision was difficult and that organizers are working to reschedule; Aug. 22 is a tentative date pending confirmation from the tent vendor and other participating groups.
Grdina also announced a Fishing Derby scheduled for Sunday, June 7, from 8 a.m. to noon at Carleton Pond. Shaw's and County Stores donated food, fishing gear and prizes for children; the fish will be delivered on Wednesday morning, and volunteers from Purgatory Falls Fish & Game will assist with setup. The Recreation Department will provide grilling for attendees.
Grdina said the department will try to include as much of the original America 250 program as practical for a rescheduled event and will follow up publicly with confirmed plans if the vendor and other logistics align.
