Adel Chamber given parking access for Sweet Corn Festival; building shelter and cooling-center use deferred

Erin Milroy of the Adel Chamber of Commerce asked the Dallas County Board on July 7 for access to county parking, the courtyard for inflatables, and use of the county administration building as an emergency weather shelter or cooling center for the Adel Sweet Corn Festival.
The board consented to parking-lot use and said inflatables should remain on the street this year because newly installed sod and insurance requirements make lawn use impractical. Chair Julia Helm and staff will work with the Chamber on insurance requirements for future years and on possible media (RVTV) participation in September.
Staff and supervisors indicated the administration building could be made available as a storm shelter if needed, but noted that who will grant entry to attendees or vendors during a last-minute need must be determined. Using the building as a cooling center would require a county employee to be on site for the full day, and the board deferred a final decision on the storm shelter and cooling-center logistics until the next meeting when more information will be available.
The board said it wants to be helpful to the Chamber but emphasized safety and insurance considerations in deciding site use for festival activities.
