Architectural Review Board requires redesign and non-reflective finishes for proposed Public Storage on Hwy 17

Several board members expressed concern that the brick tone in the submitted renderings appeared too red. The applicants said the renderings showed a color distortion and that the actual brick selection would be a Savannah Gray-like product. Board members also raised concerns about long, unbroken runs of the panel-like material proposed for building walls and asked for architectural features to break up those elevations.
The board adopted a motion, moved by Jennifer Sheahan and seconded by Carrol Ann Coleman, that the South Elevation be redesigned to comply with UDO 11.4 B.1.c; that the painted galvanized-steel panels be specified and finished to be non-reflective; and that the Savannah Gray-like brick be similar to the material used on the city hall remodel and approved by Planning Staff. The minutes record that applicants asked about adding additional downspouts or landscaping to address visual concerns but Chair Jack Giddens clarified that landscaping added off-building would not satisfy UDO 11.4 B.1.c and that the architectural changes must be on the building itself (for example, faux windows, shutters, or other architectural elements).
The motion carried by all board members present. The board did not record any vote tallies beyond "carried by all," and the minutes do not specify a deadline for resubmittal; Planning Staff will review the revised materials for compliance per the board's direction.
