The Darien Environmental Protection Commission approved multiple permit actions at its June 3 meeting, including a maintenance dredging permit for a private pond and conditional approvals for residential projects near regulated wetlands.
By unanimous vote (Joosten, Ervin, Bayne, Keena), the commission approved EPC #05-2026 to maintenance-dredge portions of a private pond at 20 Driftway Lane with the conditions enumerated in the staff 'Draft' Resolution dated June 4, 2026. The motion to approve was made by Commissioner Carolyn Bayne and seconded by Commissioner Michael Ervin.
The commission also approved EPC #11-2026 for an accessory dwelling unit and related features at 12 Locust Hill Road (motion by Bayne, seconded by Ervin) and EPC #17-2026 for a residential addition and drainage work at 350 Middlesex Road (motion by Bayne, seconded by Ervin). Approvals included conditions in each application’s associated draft resolution and required revisions (for example, revised civil and landscape drawings and expanded native plantings for the Middlesex Road project).
For the new application at 5 Oak Park Avenue (EPC #22-2026), staff recommended and commissioners agreed that public interest and prior enforcement history warrant scheduling a public hearing; the commission voted to schedule that hearing. Several other applications were discussed and will be the subject of draft resolutions or further review by staff. No municipal expenditures were approved at the meeting.
