North Castle parks board: pool deck reconstruction bid out; July 4 opening still weather-dependent

At its Jan. 6 meeting, the Town of North Castle Parks & Recreation Advisory Board said a bid package has been released for demolition and reconstruction of the town pool’s deck, leveling of gutters and interior surfacing, and a site visit will be scheduled for interested contractors. The board approved the Dec. 2 minutes earlier in the meeting.
Supervisor Rende described a July 4 target for opening as “optimistic,” but emphasized the schedule depends on winter weather and what crews find when they open and inspect the existing deck. Committee member Jeff Scott asked whether the pool’s tennis courts will be usable for the 2026 season; Superintendent Matt Trainor said the site plan must balance lawn space and shade, suggesting court availability is not guaranteed until the site plan is finalized and contractors begin work.
Board members also discussed related park infrastructure. Lombardi Park cannot be hooked up to building water service until the county Health Department signs off, a step officials said is pending. The Town Board has approved asbestos abatement and oil-tank removal at Lombardi Park’s old building, and the department plans to keep the structure because the well there is used to heat pool water; town staff said the footprint may be repurposed for additional parking rather than a new building.
Field projects tied to the board’s facilities updates include the IBM turf field project, which is underway but paused while the work area remains snow-covered, and the Clove Road NCCC fields, where the same contractor will resume work once conditions allow. There were no indications at the meeting that either project faces a formal schedule delay, though both are weather-dependent.
Next steps: the department will arrange a contractor site visit for the pool bid, continue follow-up on Health Department sign-off for Lombardi Park water, and monitor site conditions on the turf and Clove Road field projects. The board’s next regular meeting is scheduled for Feb. 3 at 6:15 p.m.
