Milton CPC hears six applicants as 21 proposals vie for roughly $6 million in preservation funding

Tom Callahan, chair of the Milton Community Preservation Committee, told members on June 22 that one applicant withdrew from the current round, leaving 21 proposals requesting roughly $6 million in preservation funding for FY2026. Six applicants presented their proposals that evening and answered committee questions.
The presentations included a second phase restoration of the Pine Grove at Winter Valley by Marita Cronin; Phase 2 of the Pagoda Circle restoration presented by Regina Campbell-Malone with Alissa Cruz and Christina Lilliechook; a proposal from John Kiernan to initiate an Open Space Preservation Trust Fund to support conservation restrictions; a request from Robert Levash to level and re-sod Andrews Field; Levash’s separate Gio Field Phase Two request to fund design and engineering for improved spectator amenities; and a proposal from Stephen O'Donnell to inventory and assess Milton’s 18 Olmsted-designed landscapes to guide future preservation work.
On a motion by Steve O'Donnell, seconded by Jenny Russell, the committee approved the minutes from its June 8, 2026 meeting. Peter Jackson, Robert Levash, and Kathleen O'Donnell were recorded as abstaining due to absences.
Callahan also reported that two interviews for the CPC clerk position had been completed; he said he would follow up with Human Resources Director Carla Fede about arranging an interview with town officials. Committee members raised concern about fitting the remaining ten applicants into the next scheduled meeting on July 6; Callahan said he would seek scheduling adjustments and clarification on warrant deadlines for the town meeting cycle.
The committee adjourned at 8:32 p.m. on a motion by Jenny Russell, seconded by Kathleen O'Donnell. The CPC expects to continue reviewing the remaining applicants at future meetings and to resolve scheduling and warrant-timing questions before final funding recommendations are prepared.
