Council approves temporary traffic plan for West Virginia Wesleyan College move-in day

Buckhannon City Council approved a temporary traffic management plan for West Virginia Wesleyan College's student move-in day on Aug. 17, 2024. The college requested that Meade Street be designated one-way (from College toward Camden Avenue) from 7:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., with barriers at key intersections and volunteer traffic marshals to ease congestion.
John Bohman, listed in the request as WVWC Director of Campus Safety & Security, outlined the plan and said about 100 fraternity and sorority volunteers would assist students and that a subset of volunteers would be posted at intersections. The proposal also asked for VIPS support if available.
Council member Pam Bucklew moved to approve the traffic flow arrangement and Jack Reger seconded; the motion carried unanimously. City staff will coordinate logistics and barrier placement for the specified date and times.
