Wahoo staff report kickoff of downtown revitalization, utility looping and citywide fiber buildout

Wahoo — At its June 4 meeting the Wahoo Planning Commission received staff updates on several local projects, including the Downtown Revitalization Committee, the Market Suites redevelopment, the Lake Wanahoo amphitheater and utility and broadband infrastructure projects.
City Administrator Melissa Harrell reported that about 25 volunteers joined the Downtown Revitalization Committee at its June 1 kickoff meeting and described the group as a broad and passionate representation of the community. Commissioners asked for status information on the Market Suites project on the old Wahoo Super lot; Harrell summarized the previously approved redevelopment agreement and the current status as discussed in the commission packet. Questions about the amphitheater on Lake Wanahoo were answered by Mayor Johnson.
Harrell also briefed the commission on infrastructure projects: a contracted utility looping project will extend water, electricity and natural gas around the west portion of Wahoo, and Windstream/Kinetic plans to deploy fiber infrastructure to reach all locations in Wahoo over the next couple of months.
Separately, the commission agreed to move the July Planning Commission meeting to Tuesday, July 7, because of the July 4 holiday. Chair Tracy Pfligler moved to table approval of the minutes because they were provided late; the motion passed. The meeting adjourned at 8:12 p.m.
