Bruneau-Grand View board approves bus procurement process, rules on open enrollment and approves vendor bill with trustee recusal

At its Oct. 14 meeting the Bruneau-Grand View Joint School District Board of Trustees voted to advertise for a new school bus to be funded in the 2026–27 budget, approved one student’s open-enrollment request and denied two others, and approved payment to a vendor after a trustee recusal.
Trustee Allen Merrick moved and Trustee Steve Boren seconded approval to advertise for a replacement bus to be paid from the 2026–27 budget; the motion passed. District staff explained the most recently decommissioned bus (#05, model year 2005) had between about 330,000 and 350,000 miles and that upkeep and inspections were costing more than the vehicle’s remaining value. The district reported approximately $96,000 in the bus-depreciation account and estimated a new bus will cost between $115,000 and $130,000; the board authorized beginning the procurement process.
On open enrollment, Trustee Boren moved to approve Student B’s application and Trustee Eldridge seconded; that motion passed. A separate motion to deny Student A’s and Student C’s open-enrollment requests carried unanimously on the record.
On a separate consent-of-payments item, the board approved a bill for Merrick Diesel Solutions; Trustee Merrick recused himself from that vote because of a potential conflict of interest. Trustee Boren moved to approve the Merrick Diesel Solutions bill and Trustee Eldridge seconded; the motion was recorded as passed.
Other consent items approved earlier in the meeting included payroll and accounts-payable, school-account reports and several staff hires—Tabatha Woodwick (custodian), Stevie Richardson (special-education paraprofessional), Kyla Jewett (head varsity girls basketball), Wylee Aquiso (head varsity boys basketball) and Pedro Varela (JV boys basketball).
