Superintendent says he 'intended to leave'; Bruneau-Grand View board approves interim search

Jeff Blaser, superintendent of the Bruneau-Grand View Joint School District, told trustees during an executive-session discussion Oct. 14 that he had "noted his intent to leave at the start of the year." The board met in executive session under Idaho Code §74-206(1)(a),(b) to consider personnel matters and returned to open session to approve a motion to conduct interviews for an interim superintendent.

Trustee Steve Boren moved and Trustee Allen Merrick seconded the motion to authorize interviews for an interim superintendent; the motion passed on the record. The executive session, which began at 7:57 p.m., also included review of open-enrollment applications and a complaint against an employee; the board reconvened at 9:29 p.m.

Board procedure followed Idaho open-meetings law: patrons were asked to wait outside during the executive session, and a roll-call vote was recorded to enter the closed session. The meeting minutes show staff present during the executive session included Mr. Blaser and several district employees. No formal resignation was recorded in open session on Oct. 14; the record states only that Mr. Blaser "noted his intent to leave." The board's next procedural step was to begin interviews for an interim superintendent.
