The Castleford School District No. 417 Board of Trustees reorganized leadership and approved multiple policy and academic changes at its regular meeting on Jan. 15.
Superintendent Dena Allred opened nominations for board chair. Trustee Kim Taylor nominated Rae Bower for chair; Trustee Brian Darrow seconded. With no further nominations the board accepted Rae Bower as Board Chair. Will Jaynes nominated Brian Darrow for vice chair; Kim Taylor seconded and Darrow was accepted. Kim Taylor also nominated Tanya Lanham for board clerk; that motion carried.
The board adopted a package of policies and administrative procedures. On a motion by Kim Taylor and second by Will Jaynes, the board approved Policy 2720 (third reading) and a set of additional policies later in the meeting, listed in the minutes as 1500; 5270 (adopted with the addition naming the superintendent and principal); 5370; 7400 with accompanying procedures 7400P2–P4 (including a $50,000 threshold) and 7455. The minutes record the motions as carried; vote tallies for these motions were not specified in the published minutes.
Trustee Kim Taylor moved and the board approved an amendment to the student handbook's Valedictorian/Salutatorian requirements, replacing the first sentence to read: "Students must have a minimum of 8 credits in both math and science to include the Capstone offerings. Examples of Capstone offerings are not limited to pre-calculus, statistics, chemistry, and physics." Brian Darrow seconded and the motion carried.
The board also approved a technology services contract with Truleap Technologies on a motion from Kim Taylor and second by Brian Darrow; the minutes list the contract approval without additional contract-value details.
Why it matters: The officer elections set leadership for the year and the policy adoptions change academic and administrative rules that will affect graduation requirements, procurement thresholds and technology services. Several motions were recorded as "motion carried" without roll-call tallies; the minutes supply a roll call only for the motion to enter executive session.
