West Geauga board hears presentation on state student wellness and disadvantaged‑pupil funding

At a special meeting of the West Geauga Local School District Board of Education, Dr. Amy Davis briefed trustees on two state funding streams and how the district is using them. The Student Wellness and Success funds and Disadvantaged Pupil Impact Aid are calculated from the number of economically disadvantaged students and the district’s average daily enrollment, she said, and must be reported to the state and posted online.
Dr. Davis said the Student Wellness and Success funds “require community partnership” and are focused on mental, emotional and physical health services; the district’s named partner for these services is Ravenwood Health and the ESC of the Western Reserve. For disadvantaged‑pupil aid she said the district is using an interdisciplinary case‑support approach through the Tioga Family 1st Council and directing part of the funds to early literacy and supports for English learners via the ESC of the Western Reserve.
A board member asked which languages are represented among the district’s English learners; Dr. Davis said Spanish, Russian and Ukrainian are among the primary languages served. On accounting and oversight, she said these are state funds that the district must report and post on its website annually.
No motion or vote was required for the presentation; the board moved on to other agenda items after questions.
