The Adams Central Community Schools board approved a district-wide $50 student fee for K–12 to cover consumable supplies that are no longer fully funded by state allocations.
Administrator Mr. McClure explained the decision follows a state change that permits districts to charge for consumable items (art supplies, science consumables, class materials). "We are setting that, at a flat rate of $50, K through 12," he said, adding that the district previously received increased funding aimed at textbooks but had to absorb consumable costs. He characterized $50 as a reasonable, conservative figure compared with historical cumulative fees that could total several hundred dollars per student.
McClure said the district intends to collect the fee at registration and will work with families to provide accommodations for those who cannot pay immediately. The district also plans to communicate payment options and logistics through principals and registration materials.
The motion to approve the fee was moved, seconded and carried as part of routine board action.
