Board approves Boys & Girls Club transportation MOU; club to cover daily cost

The Adams Central Community Schools board approved a memorandum of understanding to resume district-provided transportation to the Boys & Girls Club in Decatur.
Administrator Mr. McClure described the arrangement as a short route intended only for students who are using the Boys & Girls Club program, not a general drop-off service. "This is not a drop off point," he said, adding district and club staff will monitor sign-outs and departures.
McClure outlined operational safeguards intended to reduce prior bus behavior problems: the district will run a short route with a designated driver rather than attaching the trip to a longer town route, and club directors will assist with monitoring. "We're hoping just to run what's considered a short route," he said, noting the trip is about 6.5 miles each way.
He described the cost agreement: "Boys and Girls Club has agreed to pay for this service," McClure said, estimating the daily cost at about $75, with roughly $45–$50 covering driver salary and benefits and the remainder covering mileage (about $2 per mile on the 6.5-mile run). The MOU shown to the board reflects that agreement.
The item was part of the consent agenda and was approved without separate objection. Administrators said the club is considering expansion and the partnership would provide after-school programming, homework help and supervised activities for participating district students.
