Burley council approves application for River's Edge Park dock-wall replacement grant

The Burley City Council on Jan. 20 authorized the mayor to sign an application for a Waterway Improvement Grant to replace a compromised dock wall at River’s Edge Park Marina.
Assistant City Administrator Brent Carver told the council the grant application is due Jan. 30, 2026, and that preconditions include a public-involvement step that staff sought to satisfy by allowing a public comment at the meeting. City Engineer Dave Waldron provided an estimated construction cost of $263,284.31 and recommended a concrete buttress with cables and rock to prevent erosion.
Carver said the grant permits a contractor other than the city to perform work (the project will be bid) and that the required match is approximately $13,000 with the county agreeing to pay $10,000, leaving a City match of about $3,000. Idaho Watersports offered in-kind assistance moving docks, but contracted work will be awarded through competitive bidding if the grant is awarded. Carver said the city expects the work to be completed in Fall 2026.
Shawn Burton, present as a citizen, spoke in favor of the improvements during the public-comment portion invoked to satisfy the grant’s public-involvement requirement.
Councilmember Kimberli Seely moved to approve the application and allow the mayor to sign; Councilmember Casey Andersen seconded and a roll-call vote was unanimous 6-0.
