Bull Shoals — The Bull Shoals Police Department has applied for a $75,000 grant to purchase dash cameras and is planning to bring a canine into service through a military transfer, Police Chief Brad Harper told the City Council on Aug. 29.
"The report stands as submitted," Chief Harper said while briefing the council on departmental business. He said Sergeant Clark will obtain a canine through the military; the dog's food will be donated, and the city would be responsible for vehicle modifications. Harper said the department will include a $2,000 line item in its budget for miscellaneous canine-related costs.
Harper also said the department held a community meet-and-greet that was "a great success." The council approved the departmental reports on a 6–0 vote.
The police-related items could affect next year’s municipal budget but do not represent a finalized spending decision. The dash-cam grant application is pending; the municipal budget inclusion of $2,000 for canine supplies was described as a planned line item.
Next steps: the council did not vote on the grant itself at the Aug. 29 meeting; staff will pursue the grant application and return with formal budget requests if the grant or program requires city matching funds.
