Superintendent briefs committee on summer programs for 400+ students; consent agenda approved

The Auburn School Committee received three brief updates from Superintendent Sue Doris on July 15 and approved the consent agenda.

Doris told the committee the district is offering academic enrichment and specialized support this summer for more than 400 students. “This summer, we're providing academic enrichment and specialized support programs for over 400 students,” she said, listing literacy and math tutoring, summer learning at elementary and middle school levels, credit recovery, multilingual learner support, and extended school-year services for students with disabilities. Doris said outcomes from these summer programs will likely be reported back at the committee’s second August meeting.

Doris also announced a one-time calendar adjustment: the graduation date for the class of 2027 will be Saturday, May 29 (moved up a week because of the 2026 calendar shift), with the district planning to return to its regular schedule the following year.

Finally, the superintendent said the school committee will hold a workshop on Aug. 5 beginning at 4:30 p.m. to review and update committee goals.

On routine business, the committee considered and approved the consent agenda, which included approval of the meeting agenda, the minutes of the June 17 meeting, and the superintendent’s recommendations for certificated contracts pending appropriate certification or licensing (Melissa Anderson; Crystal Hafner; Sarah Davis; Abigail Hines; Evan Conley; Elena Bonas). The chair called for a motion, it was moved and seconded, and the chair announced the motion passed.

The meeting ended after brief committee reports and a motion to adjourn was approved.
