A district staff member told the board the June fund-activity statement projects a year-end surplus slightly above $600,000, but the district is preparing for several unplanned charges, including an emergency, six-figure repair to the auditorium HVAC system.
The special-education update earlier in the meeting reported the program ran a little over $300,000 over budget for the year. Jen said the district had budgeted $997,000 in excess-cost reimbursement but received about $1,350,000, which helped offset the overrun. Trustees discussed using surplus and capital funds to cover emergency and other capital items.
The staff member said ballpark contractor quotes had been obtained but did not provide a final contract total. Trustees did not take any formal action at the meeting; earlier in the session the chair had noted the board lacked a quorum and therefore could not vote on finance items.
Board members asked that staff provide more detailed cost analyses showing how in-district therapeutic programming and other changes might reduce transportation and out-of-district tuition costs going forward.
