Committee approves leases for replacement patrol vehicles and sale of older vehicles

The Ashland County Finance & Economic Development Committee approved entering leases for three replacement vehicles and agreed to sell two Traverses and one van currently in the sheriff’s fleet.
Dave, representing the sheriff’s department, explained that two Traverses and a van are reaching the end of their lease windows and that Enterprise recommended selling some vehicles now to take advantage of stronger used-vehicle market prices. He told the committee the department could order new vehicles now and delay payment until January 2027, which aligns with ordering windows for certain models.
At the request for motion wording, Dave asked the committee for permission to proceed. "Motion to approve the purchase of those 3 vehicles from enterprise," Dave said during his presentation, clarifying he meant entering into leases for the replacements. The motion recorded by the committee approved selling the two Traverses and the van through Enterprise and moving forward with leasing a Toyota Explorer, a Toyota Tacoma and a Pacifica van as replacement units.
Committee members discussed the need to maintain spare vehicles for backup and concluded the gap in vehicle availability would be manageable this year while the replacements are ordered and prepared.
The motion passed by voice vote.
