Hennessey board approves 2025-26 Estimate of Needs, handbook revisions, consultant hire and student medication policy

The Hennessey Public Schools Board of Education on Sept. 8 approved the district 2025
2026 Estimate of Needs and a package of routine business and policy items, including revisions to the Elementary School Handbook and updates to Board Policy Item 422 on administering medication to students.
Board president James Matousek moved to approve the Estimate of Needs as prepared by auditors Angel, Johnston & Blasingame, P.C.; the motion was seconded by Vice President Dakota Semrad and passed on a 4-0 recorded vote with one member absent. The consent agenda also passed by the same margin; it included the Aug. 11 minutes, the district
31 financial summaries, listed purchase orders and encumbrances for the General, Building and Child Nutrition funds, 2025-26 fundraisers, categorical budgets for core funds, and a food-service agreement with Big Five Head Start for the 2025-26 school year.
The board approved proposed changes to the Elementary School Handbook on a motion by Matousek, seconded by Semrad. The board also approved a revision to Item 422, the district
policy governing administering medication to students; the motion carried unanimously among members present. The meeting record does not specify the text of the handbook or policy changes.
Members voted to employ Stephen L. Smith Corp. as the district
financial consultant for fiscal year 2025-26; the motion was made by Matousek, seconded by Semrad and approved 4-0, with one absence.
The board also approved an FFA trip to the National Convention scheduled Oct. 27
