Spring Lake Heights council begins planning for U.S. 250th and borough 100th anniversaries

Councilwoman Sara King said she has attended Monmouth County 250th committee meetings and offered to coordinate with the Spring Lake Heights School on activities such as a poster contest, art projects or a reenactment performance for the two celebrations.
Clerk Janine Gillis will request that Monmouth County bring the county’s 250th anniversary promotional truck to the borough’s Fall Festival, and Councilwoman King announced the first Spring Lake Heights 100th Anniversary Committee meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 5, 2026. Councilman Casagrande said the two celebrations should be planned separately so they do not conflate borough and national programming; the borough attorney noted a future resolution can appoint committee officers when formalized.
Council members asked staff to check other municipal calendars to avoid scheduling conflicts with nearby events. No votes were taken; the discussion established next steps for committee formation and intergovernmental coordination.
