Spring Lake Heights swears in two council members; William Graetz chosen council president

Mayor Christopher Campion called the Borough of Spring Lake Heights meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. on Jan. 5 and administered the oath of office to newly elected council members William Graetz and Dayton Lonsdale after Borough Clerk Janine Gillis read the election determination.
The council reorganized its leadership for 2026. Councilwoman Michele Degnan-Spang nominated William Graetz to serve as council president; the nomination, seconded by Councilman John Casagrande, carried unanimously (Ayes: Capristo, Casagrande, Degnan-Spang, Graetz, King, Lonsdale). The council also adopted a procedure for electing the council president (Resolution R2026-01) and set committee assignments for the year (R2026-03), listing Casagrande for Finance; King for Grants and Legislation; Capristo for Recreation; Graetz for Public Safety; Lonsdale for Public Works, Building and Grounds; and Degnan-Spang for Water-Sewer Utility.
Clerk Gillis recorded the roll call and Mayor Campion asked for a moment of silence in memory of Nancy Maclearie, who served on the borough's Environmental Commission and Land Use Board for 15 years. The meeting proceeded with the council’s adopted public-meeting notice as required under New Jersey law.
The council adjourned at 7:33 p.m.
