Southeast Tech highlights summer CTE camps and pre-college programs; board acknowledges report

Anna Fisher, the college’s pre-college program advisor, described several summer programs and outreach partnerships intended to introduce middle- and high-school students to career-technical education.
Fisher said the CTE Academy collaboration and campus camps reached dozens of students this summer: a bridal-school 'med' event (June 1–4), an engineering camp with 23 high-school participants, a welding camp that brought 16 students per session, and a USD high-school visit that included 37 students who rotated among med lab tech, sonography and respiratory therapy sessions. "We do a lot of fun things with them too. They go around to different programs and get to do activities within the labs and see the programs up close and meet the instructors," Fisher said.
A parent told the board her daughter "had a stinking blast" and described the camps as engaging and confidence-building. Fisher explained some camps are subsidized by industry sponsors or small participant fees; the medical scrubs/camp-med offering received a Department of Health grant and some camps earn sponsor support to keep costs low.
The board moved to acknowledge the summer events report by voice vote.
What’s next: Administration will continue partnerships with CTE programs, pursue additional sponsorship opportunities, and plan a cross-curricular middle-school camp for the coming year.
