Hilbert plans time capsule opening, veterans memorial update and approves event permits for July 3–4 picnic

Randy Boesch explained that the village time capsule, located in the bell monument, will be opened on July 4 at roughly 2:30 p.m. after the first band; the Lions will arrange press coverage and a display table will show items removed. The Gast family, who helped with the original 1976 project, will participate. The Board also accepted a report from Lisa Krueger that the Veterans Memorial at Hilbert Civic Park is almost complete and is awaiting two benches; she asked about ownership and who should lower flags to half-mast for memorials.
The Board approved the Hilbert Lions' Temporary Class B license for the picnic and conditionally approved the Lions' fireworks permit pending final paperwork; it also authorized the Lions to use Village property for event parking, weather permitting. Yolanda Hernandez of Hilbert Haven requested a porta potty at 4th and Main due to previous public urination problems; the fire department will evaluate placement.
