Seaman board approves intent to exceed revenue-neutral rate; hearing set for Sept. 14

The Seaman USD 345 Board voted to authorize the district to submit an intent to exceed the revenue-neutral tax rate for the coming budget cycle and set a public hearing for Sept. 14 at 5:50 p.m. in the boardroom.
Treasurer Lisa Mirando explained the rationale: exceeding the revenue-neutral rate allows the district to maintain programs, retain staff, provide full transportation, cover inflationary increases for supplies and insurance and sustain services for students. "We're asking that the board approve the intent to exceed the revenue neutral tax rate to allow the district to preserve the quality of education, retain excellent staff, maintain safe facilities, and meet the expectations our community has for its schools," Mirando said.
The draft mill rate the district plans to submit is 51.452 mills; staff said they intentionally proposed less cushion than in prior years and will publish required notices in advance of the hearing. The hearing will precede the formal budget hearing and the regular board meeting. The board approved the motion to submit the RNR intent and set the hearing by voice vote.
