County office candidates introduce campaigns at council public forum

Four candidates for Becker County offices addressed the Detroit Lakes City Council during the city's public forum.
Shane Richard introduced himself as a candidate for Becker County Sheriff and outlined 27 years in law enforcement, including service as a patrol deputy, DARE officer and chief deputy, and described technology initiatives he led such as a drone program, body-worn cameras and an armored radio system. "I was also the project manager for those... armored radio system," he said, and sought community support for the November election.
Kim Frederick introduced herself as a candidate for Becker County Auditor-Treasurer and described 13 years with Becker County and a background in financial services and elections oversight; she emphasized transparency, customer service and efficiency.
Nathan Martin also introduced himself as a candidate for Auditor-Treasurer, citing 32 years in the U.S. Navy, senior executive experience at the U.S. Department of Energy and private-sector leadership; he said his priorities include stewardship of taxpayer dollars, accountability and free and fair elections.
Zach Baron (who said he was born and raised in Detroit Lakes) described five years working in the Auditor-Treasurer's Office, his payroll and motor-vehicle experience and his opposition to changing the auditor-treasurer position from elected to appointed. All candidates answered brief questions from the council and encouraged voters to participate in the August primary and November general election.
Next steps: candidates will continue campaign outreach; the city continues to host public forums and encourage voter participation.
