Kent State Board of Nursing committee to combine five-year statute and regulation reviews

The Kent State Board of Nursing KPR committee on Sept. 9 discussed plans to combine the five-year statutory review and the five-year regulatory review into one coordinated process covering 2026–2029.
The staff member explained that the combined process will list statutes and regulations due for review and give the committee flexibility to schedule specific items within the assigned review year. “What we’re doing now is we’re actually combining those two together into one process,” the staff member said. Staff pointed committee members to the packet (page 10) that lists review years and items.
The committee agreed to receive the consolidated list in the December packet. The staff member said the plan is for members to identify which items they want to review in the March packet each year; work would proceed through March and the committee would complete reviews within the assigned calendar year. No formal vote was taken on the scheduling approach during the meeting.
The committee also discussed that the combined review supports the five-year reporting requirement to the legislature and is intended to keep statute and regulation reviews on a predictable timeline. Staff noted the revision to KR60-9-106 is already in the approval process but has not yet reached public notice.
The committee will receive the consolidated review list in December 2025 and begin active reviews after its first meeting in March 2026.
