Caldwell Board approves governance document, hears state assessment results and KSDE recognition

The Caldwell Board of Education approved a Board Governance and Operations document and heard presentations on 2025 state assessment results and district recognition from the Kansas State Department of Education at its Oct. 13, 2025 regular meeting.
Superintendent Traci Becker summarized the KSDE recognition, saying the district received a 2025 designation of “Academically Prepared for Postsecondary: Copper Level.” Becker also thanked food service staff following recent health inspection results and noted a suicide-prevention presentation by Al Melichar for secondary students.
The approval of the Governance and Operations document followed Superintendent Becker’s presentation and came on a motion by board member Gage Overall, seconded by board member Chris Baker; the motion passed 6-0. Board President Darren McDorman called the board to order at 6:30 p.m. and the meeting included reports from both principals and district staff.
Elementary Principal Crystal Carothers highlighted PreK–5 classroom activities and enrollment figures, praising a classroom poet presentation coordinated by Ms. Vaughn. Secondary Principal Stacy Boone outlined secondary events and enrollment and described a proposed handbook update concerning student conduct and prohibited items.
The state assessment presentation reviewed 2025 results and KSDE guidance on upcoming changes to assessment and reporting. Superintendent Becker also discussed the district’s annual SO-66 report (enrollment and per-student funding data) and relayed legislative priorities shared by the Kansas Association of School Boards at a Region 6 listening meeting.
The meeting record shows no public debate or amendments to the Governance and Operations document at the time of approval. The board scheduled its next regular meeting for Nov. 10, 2025. The meeting adjourned at 7:42 p.m.
