Burden City Council holds condemnation hearing; no property owners appeared

Burden City Council held a public hearing on condemnation under Resolution No. 2025-03 on June 23, 2025, at Burden City Hall. Mayor Lee Wingert opened the hearing at 7:30 p.m.; no property owners who had been given proper notice attended to contest the proposed condemnations.
Council Member Chris Cannon motioned to recess the regular meeting for 15 minutes so the council could conduct the condemnation hearing; Council Member Taylor Dory seconded and the motion carried 3-0, with Cannon, Dory and Chase Hobart voting in favor. After the hearing, Cannon moved to close the public hearing; Dory seconded and that motion also passed 3-0.
Present for the session were Council Members Chris Cannon, Taylor Dory and Chase Hobart. Mayor Lee Wingert presided. Staff listed on the hearing record included City Attorney Josh Albin; Public Works Supervisor Dale Deets; Public Works employee Ben Dobbs; Chief of Police Ron Cannon and Officer Alan Marcotte; Pool Manager Christina Hankins; Deputy City Clerk Amanda Lindsay; and City Clerk Julia Loving. Members of the public noted on the record were Donna Jackson, Don Satterfield and Lyle Lashbrook.
The stated purpose of the hearing was to allow interested parties to appear and show cause why buildings identified under Resolution No. 2025-03 should not be condemned and ordered demolished. The minutes record that no appearances by property owners who had received proper notice were made during the hearing. The council said the City will pursue appropriate resolution on the condemnations at its next meeting.
The council brought the regular meeting back out of recess at 7:45 p.m. The record shows both the recess and the motion to close the hearing passed unanimously by the three council members present.
