Brewster Board approves multiple hires for 2024–25 school year; names superintendent of record

The Brewster Unified School District No. 314 Board of Education approved several personnel actions Aug. 19 to staff the 2024–25 school year and designated a Superintendent of Record while Superintendent Jessica McCoy awaits issuance of her district leadership license.
After an executive session for personnel matters, the board voted to hire Katherine Cunningham as the junior high and high school science teacher; that motion passed 5–1 with Board Vice President Kassie Selby recorded as the lone opposing vote. The board approved Lane Patmon as the K–12 physical education teacher and athletic director and separately approved him as the high school assistant football coach; both motions passed unanimously.
The board also approved hiring paraprofessionals Kirra Moore and Amber Peterson, appointed Ron Ribordy as transportation director, and approved part-time librarian Lynette Brown. In addition, the board voted to approve Lamar Bergsten as Superintendent of Record and to replace Clark Coco as a district account signatory until Jessica McCoy receives her district leadership license.
Board minutes show the executive session occurred from 7:00 to 7:15 p.m. under the Kansas Open Meetings Act exception for non-elected personnel; the board returned to open session and recorded each hiring motion and the vote tallies.
The hires and administrative changes were presented as routine staffing and compliance actions to ensure the district is operational while the superintendent’s licensure is finalized.
