District authorizes major high-school Phase 2 renovations; initial estimates and funding sources discussed

The Board authorized the district to begin Phase 2 of a major high-school renovation project covering roof work, an A-wing remodel (English and science labs), HVAC and auditorium upgrades, elevator replacements and other facility improvements.
Facilities staff presented headwaters cost estimates as placeholders and stressed the numbers are high-level until bids are received. Staff cited an initial project estimate in the multiple millions (presentations referenced a planning estimate in the neighborhood of $8.01M for the Phase 2 scope after adding fees and allowances) and noted an additional ~$600,000 in bond funds that could be redirected toward roof work. Staff said $7.9M had already been allotted from prior phase rollover and that other significant renovation projects (Baldwin High School, Rocky Mountain and Ammon projects) are in the planning pipeline.
Trustees discussed classroom impacts during construction (use of five trailers to provide 10 classrooms), costs for moving trailers (estimated at roughly $20,000 per trailer), and phasing to complete exterior and auditorium work during summer months while reserving interior work for the following year. One trustee asked for clarity on remaining HVAC work at Hillcrest and other deferred maintenance obligations; staff said those needs will be scheduled as budgets and bids allow.
The board moved to authorize starting Phase 2 and approved the motion by voice vote. Staff will refine estimates and bring bid packages and funding plans (including exact allocations of the state modernization revenue) back to the board.
