Burden council approves pump purchase; WATCO to evaluate crossings, KDOT confirms no permit for school lights

Public Works Supervisor Dale Deets reported that the impeller at the water pump house was damaged beyond repair. After Rural Water District No. 5 reviewed quotes, the lowest bid from Salina Supply Company remained the least expensive option. Council approved purchasing a new pump and any associated repair costs from Salina Supply (motion by Chris Cannon; second by Taylor Dory), vote 4-0.
City Attorney Josh Albin reported he had spoken with WATCO about deteriorated railroad crossings on Oak and Main Streets; WATCO will send staff to evaluate the crossings next week and a repair crew in a few weeks. Public Works Ben Dobbs said he has confirmed with the Kansas Department of Transportation that no KDOT permits are required to install the Hwy 160 school zone flashing lights and clocks; the city needs to order and install the equipment.
Council also approved sending the police expedition and tracking truck to Hopper's Auto for tune-ups (motion by Taylor Dory; second by Chris Cannon).
