Burden council approves fireworks permit, postpones pool opening and accepts Evergy routing study letter

At its April 28 meeting the Burden City Council approved several administrative items and received correspondence from a utility company.
The council approved a fireworks-stand permit requested by USD 462 to use the park pavilion June 26–July 5; Sherrie Conklin moved to approve and Carleta Bolack seconded. The motion passed 4-0.
City Clerk Julia Loving reported the pool manager asked to delay opening until the first week of June because lifeguard certification dates meant there were not enough certified staff; the council agreed to wait until adequate staffing was in place. No formal motion or new budget was recorded for the pool schedule.
Clerk Loving also presented a letter from Evergy seeking environmental information for a routing study for roughly 120 miles of new transmission line. City Attorney Josh Albin said providing comments to Evergy is optional; the council took no formal action on the routing study at the meeting.
Sherrie Conklin moved to adjourn; Chris Cannon seconded. The council adjourned at 7:04 PM by a 5-0 vote. The next regular meeting is May 19, 2025 at 6:00 PM.
