The Burden City Council voted Monday to appoint Don Satterfield to fill a vacant council seat and adopted the city'026 budget for 2026.
Mayor Lee Wingert recommended Satterfield for the vacant position and Council Member Taylor Dory moved to accept the recommendation. The motion carried 3-1, with Council President Chris Cannon recording the lone dissent. Don Satterfield accepted the appointment and read the Oath of Office; he will serve the unexpired term that expires in November 2027.
Shortly afterward the council approved the proposed 2026 budget as presented. Council Member Chris Cannon moved to approve the budget; the motion passed unanimously. "The budget was passed around and signed," City Clerk Julia Loving noted after the vote.
The council also approved the regular July meeting minutes and moved to pay the city's bills. The vote to approve payments carried, with Satterfield recorded as abstaining while the motion passed with the majority.
The meeting opened with a brief budget hearing in which Clerk Julia Loving reviewed the proposed 2026 budget; no members of the public offered comment during the hearing.
The meeting adjourned at 9:35 p.m. The next scheduled Burden City Council meeting is Sept. 22, 2025, at 7:00 p.m.
